Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to a new Special Issue entitled “Energy Economic Transition and Environmental Sustainability for Resilient and Inclusive Markets and Cities”.
The energy transition process and the widespread use of renewable energy sources are closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda and, in particular, Goal 7 (ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all), Goal 11 (make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable) and Goal 13 (take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts). The energy transition needs to promote innovative strategies, actions and projects to be implemented with respect to environmental sustainability and, at the same time, to provide models and tools to assess the impacts on the social-economic system of cities and territories.
In the above context, this Special Issue aims to collect studies and research on the difficulties to be faced and perspectives to be developed to make the economic market and cities more resilient and inclusive.
Cities are the places where the most significant progress can be made in the transition to a sustainable energy system and, therefore, where models of integrated renewable energy production systems can be tested, as well as models for economic-financial analysis of energy efficiency projects and multidimensional models for public and private decision support, or finally, the simulation and diagnostic models for the energy retrofit of buildings and subdivisions.
The energy transition processes of cities must also be studied in relation to their impacts on the housing market and the social system in order to propose financial and regulatory actions and instruments that can ensure democratic access to energy and energy services, combat energy poverty, and contribute to the sustainability, resilience, and inclusiveness of cities.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Economic and environmental strategies for energy transition;
- Regulatory, economic and financial tools to promote energy transition at the building, urban and territorial levels;
- Economic and financial feasibility and evaluation of energy retrofit plans and projects;
- Decision aid models for urban and territorial energy transitions;
- Energy transition and real estate markets;
- Models of integrated production and self-consumption of energy from renewable sources;
- Energy poverty and energy affordability;
- Simulation and diagnostic models for energy efficiency of the building stock;
- Environmental, economic and social impacts of energy transition;
- Co-benefits of the energy transition;
- Regulatory and financial tools for energy prosumers and energy communities.
We hope that this Special Issue will offer considerable insights and inspiration for new and innovative research.
