Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Understanding how mobility networks and public transport systems evolve, adapt, and distribute opportunities is essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive urban development, and recent advances in network science, mobility data analytics, and multimodal transport planning have demonstrated that the structural features of mobility and transport networks—such as connectivity, hierarchy, reliability, and responsiveness to disruptions—play decisive roles in shaping accessibility, equity, and overall system performance. As cities and metropolitan regions continue to grow, the interplay between intra-city mobility, intercity transport, and regional connectivity becomes increasingly significant, and the complexity of these interactions calls for integrated analytical frameworks that link network structure, system resilience, and inclusive mobility across multiple spatial scales.
This Special Issue seeks to enhance both theoretical and practical understanding of sustainable urban mobility networks and public transport systems, emphasizing the integration of structural network analysis, resilience-based assessment, and equity-oriented approaches. The scope aligns with the journal’s aims by addressing core aspects of sustainable transport development—efficient and reliable public transport, equitable accessibility, resilient mobility networks, and long-term sustainable system performance. We invite contributions that advance methodological innovation, provide robust empirical evidence, or offer policy-oriented insights into the planning and governance of sustainable urban and regional mobility systems.
Both original research articles and reviews are welcome, and research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Structural characteristics of mobility and public transport networks;
- Mobility network resilience, robustness, and responsiveness to disruptions;
- Inclusive mobility and equity-oriented accessibility assessment;
- Multimodal integration and sustainable public transport system design;
- ntercity transport and regional mobility connectivity in urban agglomerations;
- Data-driven modelling and analysis of mobility patterns and transport performance;
- Methods for evaluating accessibility, opportunity distribution, and system efficiency;
- Governance, planning, and policy strategies for sustainable and inclusive mobility.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
