Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cutting-edge artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies have the potential to reform transport systems' safety, efficiency, and sustainability. AI-powered solutions enable autonomous vehicles to navigate complex environments, analyze real-time data, make intelligent decisions, and respond to potential hazards. Blockchain technologies offer decentralized and secure platforms for data sharing and management, fostering trust and cooperation among various stakeholders in the transportation ecosystem. Both AI and blockchains can play critical roles in improving the overall sustainability of transport systems by optimizing energy usage and reducing waste. Key applications of AI and blockchain in transportation include:

  • Data Sharing and Security: blockchain technology offers a secure platform for data sharing between vehicles, infrastructure, and stakeholders, while AI optimizes traffic flow, reduces congestion, and minimizes emissions.
  • V2X Communication: AI enhances vehicle-to-everything communication using real-time data, while blockchain ensures integrity and reliability, fostering trust and cooperation.
  • Fleet Management: AI optimizes scheduling, routing, and maintenance for autonomous fleets; blockchain tracks usage and maintenance histories for optimal utilization.
  • Supply Chain Management: AI predicts demand patterns and adjusts routing, while blockchain improves transparency, traceability, and efficiency in supply chain processes.
  • Environmental Sustainability: AI optimizes energy consumption and charging strategies, and blockchain facilitates the tracking and trading of carbon credits, promoting cleaner transportation.
  • Traffic Optimization: AI predicts congestion, enabling route adjustments, while blockchain supports decentralized traffic management systems, minimizing congestion and travel time.
  • Ride-Sharing and MaaS: AI matches passengers with vehicles and optimizes routes, while blockchain enables secure transactions between users and providers.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
