Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Transportation hubs—such as ports, airports, and intermodal platform—are crucial components of the logistic supply chain. They serve as critical points of transfer and exchange for goods and services between different modes of transportation. The effective management of these hubs is essential for the smooth and efficient flow of goods and services in global trade and commerce. Being able to run and manage transportation hubs effectively and efficiently can lead to reduced costs (thus, challenging the full-road transportation mode), improved productivity, enhanced safety and quality, improved environmental performance and increased equality.
However, transportation hubs are complex fields that require the integration of multiple disciplines and stakeholders. This Special Issue aims to be a one-stop platform for researchers and practitioners to share knowledge, expertise, policies and on-field applications on this important topic, including qualitative and quantitative research.
To this end, we welcome original research articles and reports from national and international research programs in the form of scientific contributions, including but not limited to the following topics:
- Strategic, tactical, and operational management of intermodal transportation hubs;
- The state of the art and challenges and solutions regarding the simulation and optimization of transportation hub;
- Policies and best practices for managing transportation hubs;
- New techniques and methods for passenger/freight demand estimation for transportation hubs;
- New techniques and methods for mixed passenger and freight network loading models;
- Emerging technologies in transportation hub management;
- Decision-making in transportation hub management;
- Quality, safety, and environmental management in transportation hubs;
- Case studies;
- Use of relevant repositories for traffic data related to intermodal transportation hubs;
- Use of digital twins, big data, AI, ICT, and CCAM solutions in intermodal transportation hubs’ design/planning/management.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
