Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Community engagement is necessary to devise sustainable solutions and responses to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters, including floods, droughts, cyclones, heat waves, and bushfires. The frequency and intensity of these natural events have increased in recent times because of global climate change. Government initiatives alone may not be sufficient to provide effective solutions on disaster risk management, and thus, community responses may be needed for promoting sustainability. This Special Issue of the journal Sustainability will present research articles, reviews and technical notes on how the community engagement can offer an integrated solution to mitigate disaster risks caused by climate change. Research topics may include (but are not limited) to the following:
- Community responses to natural disasters;
- Community capacity building to mitigate disaster risks;
- Climate change adaptations through community engagement;
- Building awareness in the community on climate change impacts;
- Community consultations for infrastructure projects;
- Community engagement in decision making;
- Community psychology for disaster risk management;
- The roles of community leaders in disaster risk management;
- Monitoring and evaluation of community projects;
- Sustainability and the community;
- Minimizing the gap between the government and community on disaster risk management.
