Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Urban mobility and inclusiveness are undergoing rapid transformations driven by digital transformation, technological innovation, demographic changes, and the global push for more sustainable and inclusive cities. As populations become increasingly diverse, new sustainable mobility solutions must address the needs of not only the general public but also of individuals facing health issues and accessibility challenges. Systems Thinking (ST) and Intelligent Information Systems (IS and IT) offer powerful methodological frameworks for analysing the complex interactions between infrastructure, human behaviour, policy interventions, and emerging technologies. This Special Issue invites contributions that explore how System Dynamics models, information systems, and data-driven tools coupled with emerging technologies can support the design, evaluation, and optimisation of mobility systems and the successful management of sustainable regional planning to enhance health and inclusion. Topics of interest include smart and accessible transport networks, human–technology interaction in mobility services and health, consumer behavioural responses to mobility innovations, urban planning strategies, and the integration of assistive or intelligent technologies into public and shared mobility. By collating interdisciplinary research combining emerging technologies, consumer behaviour, and strategic urban planning, this Special Issue aims to advance understanding of how information systems and technology can drive more equitable, efficient, and resilient mobility solutions for diverse populations. Submissions combining Systems Thinking approaches with robotics, AI, IoT, or accessibility-focused technologies for smart cities are particularly welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
