Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Improving material and energy efficiencies and enhancing the conservation of natural resources represent central pillars in the global transition towards sustainable development and climate resilience. As industries, cities, and communities address increasing energy demand, rising costs, and urgent decarbonization targets, carbon-neutral transitions, which are innovative approaches to managing and optimizing energy use, are more critical than ever.

This Special Issue brings together advanced research, emerging technologies, and practical solutions that reduce energy consumption and promote sustainable energy systems across the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. It highlights modern tools, modelling approaches, and integrated strategies that enhance performance, support low-carbon development, and contribute to long-term sustainability.

Advanced Research on Sustainable Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation” aims to gather high-quality interdisciplinary contributions that deepen our understanding of energy optimization strategies, resource-efficient technologies, and scalable solutions for a low-carbon future. By showcasing cutting-edge advances, from process integration and advanced control to digitalization and renewable energy applications, this collection seeks to inform policy, guide industry practice, and accelerate progress toward global sustainability objectives.

We invite researchers and experts to submit original research articles, reviews, modelling studies, experimental investigations, policy analyses, and interdisciplinary assessments covering all aspects of energy efficiency and energy conservation.

Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Energy-efficient process and system design;
  • Analysis of thermodynamics and process integration;
  • Waste heat recovery, renewable energy integration, and hybrid systems;
  • Energy-efficient buildings, smart grids, and urban infrastructure;
  • Sustainability metrics, monitoring tools, and performance indicators;
  • Case studies demonstrating real-world implementation.

We invite you to submit your valuable contributions to this Special Issue on Advanced Research on Sustainable Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation, which aims to strengthen energy resilience in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global environment.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
