Dear Colleagues,
In recent decades, optoelectronic devices such as light emitting diodes, photodetectors, solar cells, and image-sensing devices have improved rapidly in terms of efficiency and quality. The rapid evolution in image acquisition has enabled many vision applications such as facile recognition, self-driving vehicles, and autonomous robotics. Human visual systems, such as CMOS imagers or CCD cameras, have been rapidly developed to achieve parity with computer vision. Neuromorphic vision sensors, inspired by biological systems, integrate image sensing, memory, and data processing units. Optoelectronic synaptic devices constructed using 2D Van der Waals heterostructures exhibit the capability to perform light perception, signal processing and data memory simultaneously. Organic optoelectronic materials, such as chiral organic semiconducting materials and near-infrared photodetectors, are important for polarization imaging and machine vision at night. Furthermore, organic mixed ionic-electronic charge conductors (OMIECs) are ideal electronic materials for developing artificial circuits, as they can emulate the ion-mediated mechanisms of biological synapses.
This Special Issue will focus on all types of sensing devices, including advanced materials, structures, and prospects. We aim to address new trends in materials, theory, and applications of recent optoelectronic sensing devices or systems.
