Dear Colleagues,
Recent advances in wireless communications have driven significant interest in smart antenna technologies and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems as key enablers of high-capacity, reliable, and spectrum-efficient networks. With the emergence of 5G, beyond-5G, and 6G communications, intelligent antenna systems are playing an increasingly important role in supporting enhanced mobile broadband, massive machine-type communications, ultra-reliable low-latency communications, and integrated sensing and communication applications. A fundamental paradigm shift is also underway in antenna and MIMO system design. Modern antenna platforms are no longer limited to communication functions alone. Increasingly, the same hardware infrastructure is being utilized for sensing, localization, environmental awareness, and intelligent interaction with the surrounding environment. Emerging applications include radar sensing, human activity recognition, gesture detection, indoor localization, environmental monitoring, vehicular sensing, smart transportation, industrial monitoring, healthcare monitoring, drone and UAV sensing, smart-city infrastructure, and integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. This convergence of communication and sensing capabilities is driving the development of intelligent, adaptive, and multifunctional antenna architectures that can dynamically respond to changing operating conditions and application requirements.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to present the latest developments in smart antenna and MIMO technologies for next-generation wireless systems. We welcome original research articles and reviews addressing theoretical advances, practical implementations, experimental demonstrations, and emerging applications. Topics of interest include antenna array design, beamforming techniques, massive MIMO systems, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, channel estimation and modeling, machine learning for wireless communications, physical layer security, cooperative and distributed MIMO, millimeter-wave and terahertz communications, integrated sensing and communication, and wireless systems for IoT and smart environments. Contributions that present innovative algorithms, hardware implementations, measurement campaigns, prototypes, and real-world applications are particularly encouraged. This Special Issue aligns with the scope of Sensors by highlighting sensing, signal processing, RF technologies, and intelligent communication systems for future wireless networks.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
