Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Intelligent edge sensing and computing paradigms facilitate the deployment of data processing capabilities in close proximity to data generation sources, thereby enabling low-latency data transmission and response, enhancing data privacy and confidentiality, minimizing network bandwidth consumption, and improving energy efficiency. These attributes are pivotal to the seamless operation of emerging application domains such as smart cities, industrial automation, healthcare monitoring, and autonomous systems. Despite significant progress in recent years, the field still faces prominent challenges, including the optimization of resource-constrained edge devices, fusion of multi-source heterogeneous sensing data, seamless integration of artificial intelligence techniques at the edge, safeguarding of data security and privacy, and realization of efficient collaboration between edge and cloud computing infrastructures. This Special Issue therefore solicits high-quality submissions that address these critical challenges and contribute to the advancement of the field. Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Intelligent edge sensing technologies: High-precision/low-power sensors, multi-modal fusion, and perception algorithms.
  • Edge computing architectures: Distributed frameworks, resource management, edge–cloud synergy, and energy optimization.
  • Edge AI: Lightweight algorithms, federated learning, and hardware acceleration.
  • Edge system security/privacy: Edge blockchain computing, encryption, privacy-preserving techniques, and intrusion detection.
  • Application-specific solutions: Smart cities, Industry 4.0, healthcare, and autonomous systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
