Dear Colleagues,
I invite you to share your latest study with this Special Issue. CMOS image sensors and microelectronic sensors are rapidly developing, primarily driven by the demand for intelligent perception systems and the development of embodied intelligence. CMOS image sensors continue to expand the capabilities of machine vision, medical imaging, and autonomous driving systems, leveraging their high integration, low power consumption, and continuously improving image quality. Meanwhile, microelectronic sensors, particularly those based on MEMS technology, are evolving from simple data acquisition units into intelligent nodes capable of edge computing.
The core driver of this development is integration. The evolution of CMOS image sensors and microelectronic sensors is due to their compatibility with standard CMOS processes. This compatibility facilitates the monolithic co-fabrication of analog and digital components, resulting in a dramatic reduction in system footprint and power consumption while simultaneously boosting performance, effectively ushering in the era of smart sensors.
This Special Issue aims to highlight CMOS image sensors and microelectronic sensors from design to application. Submissions of your latest findings and contributions on architectures, circuits, development of advanced CMOS image sensors, and microelectronic sensors are welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Global shutter CIS;
- Low-noise readout and circuits;
- High dynamic range (HDR) imaging techniques;
- Radiation-hardened image sensors;
- System-level integration (3D stacking);
- Event-based sensors;
- Quantum dot image sensors;
- Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays;
- Micromachined ultrasonic transducers;
- Flexible and wearable electronic sensing;
- MEMS-ASIC co-integration;
- Multi-modal fusion for embodied intelligence;
- In-sensor computing and neural processing.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
