Dear Colleagues,
Vehicular networks and communication systems are becoming key infrastructures for intelligent transportation, connected vehicles, and smart cities. With the rapid development of autonomous driving, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, roadside sensing, edge computing, and 5G/6G technologies, vehicular systems are evolving from traditional communication networks into intelligent, cooperative, and service-oriented platforms. These systems are expected to support reliable connectivity, low-latency data exchange, cooperative perception, and real-time decision-making among vehicles, roadside units, pedestrians, and cloud-edge infrastructures.
Recent advances in artificial intelligence, integrated sensing and communication, digital twins, semantic communications, and vehicular edge intelligence provide new opportunities for improving the efficiency, safety, and intelligence of vehicular networks. AI-driven methods can enhance resource allocation, mobility management, traffic prediction, and cooperative driving, while edge computing and digital twins can support delay-sensitive applications, network optimization, and intelligent traffic services.
However, intelligent vehicular networks still face many challenges, including high mobility, dynamic wireless channels, heterogeneous infrastructures, limited spectrum resources, security and privacy risks, and the difficulty of deploying robust AI models in real-world environments. Therefore, this Special Issue aims to present recent advances in intelligent vehicular network and communication systems. Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Intelligent architectures and protocols for vehicular networks
- V2X, V2V, V2I, V2N, and V2P communications
- 5G/6G-enabled vehicular communication systems
- AI, machine learning, and deep reinforcement learning for vehicular networks
- Vehicular edge computing, task offloading, and service caching
- Resource allocation, spectrum management, and power control in vehicular systems
- Cooperative perception and collaborative sensing for connected vehicles
- Integrated sensing, communication, and computing for vehicular networks
- Semantic communications for intelligent transportation systems
- Digital twin-enabled vehicular networks and traffic management
- Security, privacy, trust, and blockchain for vehicular communications
- Reliable and low-latency communications for autonomous driving
- Mobility management, handover, and routing in high-mobility networks
- Energy-efficient and sustainable vehicular communication systems
- UAV-assisted, satellite-assisted, and space-air-ground integrated vehicular networks
- Testbeds, simulations, field trials, and real-world deployment of vehicular networks
- Intelligent transportation applications, including smart cities, logistics, emergency response, and road safety

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
