Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Autonomous sensing and communication systems are increasingly deployed in transportation, aerial and maritime monitoring, robotics, smart infrastructure, industrial IoT, and next-generation wireless networks. However, their reliable operation remains difficult in dynamic, resource-constrained, and potentially adversarial environments. Key challenges include uncertain or corrupted sensor measurements, intermittent connectivity, communication delay, limited energy and computing resources, mobility, scalability, and vulnerability to cyber–physical attacks such as jamming, spoofing, false-data injection, adversarial manipulation, and privacy leakage. Addressing these challenges requires intelligent, secure, and resilient mechanisms that can maintain trustworthy perception, communication, localisation, and decision-making in real time.
This Special Issue aims to present recent advances that address the reliability, security, resilience, and efficiency challenges of autonomous sensing and communication systems. We welcome theoretical, methodological, experimental, and application-oriented studies on AI/ML, edge intelligence, secure communications, sensor fusion, cooperative localisation, anomaly and intrusion detection, trust management, privacy-preserving and federated learning, resilient navigation, integrated sensing and communication, resource allocation, and multi-agent decision-making. Particular interest is given to UAVs, connected and autonomous vehicles, maritime and robotic platforms, IoT/IoUT, and 5G/6G and O-RAN environments. Contributions involving real-world datasets, prototypes, testbeds, field trials, or reproducible simulation frameworks are especially encouraged.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- AI and machine learning for secure and resilient sensing and autonomous systems
- Secure and trustworthy sensor fusion, perception, tracking, and situational awareness
- Resilient positioning and localisation in GNSS-denied, degraded, jammed, or spoofed environments
- Detection and mitigation of jamming, spoofing, false-data injection, and adversarial attacks
- Intrusion and anomaly detection for IoT, UAV, vehicular, robotic, and maritime systems
- Trust management, authentication, secure data exchange, and cyber–physical security
- Privacy-preserving, federated, collaborative, and continual learning
- Edge AI, mobile edge computing (MEC), and distributed intelligence for real-time resilience
- Secure integrated sensing and communication for 5G/6G and O-RAN environments
- Communication–computation–control co-design and secure resource allocation
- Information freshness, latency, energy efficiency, reliability, and quality of service
- Experimental platforms, security testbeds, datasets, field trials, and real-world applications

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
