Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The emergence of the Intelligent Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has revolutionized industrial ecosystems by seamlessly integrating machines, devices, sensors, and actuators with digital platforms, communication networks, and data-driven applications. This integration—underpinned by key enabling technologies such as low-power sensing, edge computing, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and advanced connectivity—has led to an unprecedented expansion in industrial use cases.
However, this rapid technological advancement has also highlighted a growing disconnect between academic research and industrial practice. In many cases, the methods, tools, and knowledge shared in academic environments lag behind or diverge from the evolving needs of industry. Addressing this asymmetry is crucial to ensure that the next generation of professionals, researchers, and innovators are equipped with skills and insights relevant to real-world challenges.
This Special Issue aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by presenting cutting-edge research, practical applications, and visionary perspectives in the field of Intelligent Industrial IoT. We welcome original research articles that explore both theoretical foundations and practical advancements. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Training methods for Intelligent IoT systems;
- Artificial intelligence integration in IIoT applications;
- Intelligent acoustic monitoring via IoT;
- Edge and fog computing for industrial use;
- On-device signal processing;
- Cybersecure IoT domains;
- IoT for naturalized environments (nature-based solutions);
- Real-world industrial challenges;
- Quantum networking applications in IoT;
- Data-driven applications for IoT;
- Intelligent Industrial IoT for health;
- Web of Things and Intelligent Industrial Internet of Things.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
