Dear Colleagues,
Today, smart sensors are no longer passive data collectors. Instead, they are units that perform computation, communication, and edge inference. From healthcare to smart cities, industrial automation to autonomous vehicles, critical decisions rely on the data generated by these nodes, and this proliferation expands the attack surface. Sensor spoofing, signal injection, side-channel leakage, and weak authentication threaten data integrity, while adversarial examples, data poisoning, and membership inference risk both decision accuracy and privacy. Since motion, location, and physiological signals are inherently personal, protection should be designed alongside sensing, not added later.
This Special Issue aims to cover the most recent developments regarding secure and privacy-aware smart sensors for IoT and intelligent systems. We welcome original research studies and reviews covering theory, system design, and experimental validation.
Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- Lightweight and post-quantum cryptography for constrained nodes;
- Secure hardware (secure boot, TEE, PUF, remote attestation);
- Sensor spoofing, signal injection, and side-channel attacks;
- Adversarial robustness, data poisoning, and backdoor defenses;
- Federated learning, differential privacy, and encrypted computation;
- Device identity, key management, and secure updates;
- Edge-level intrusion detection and explainable security analytics;
- Privacy in wearable, in-vehicle, and urban sensing.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
