Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on the central role of multi-scale remote sensing, advanced geospatial data processing, and multi-source data fusion in driving the transition toward intelligent, data-driven agriculture. As modern agronomic workflows evolve, remote sensing acts as the foundational observation layer across both open-field operations and highly controlled, protected cropping systems.

To address current challenges in data acquisition, resolution, and operational deployment, this Special Issue highlights novel remote sensing techniques—ranging from satellite Earth observation and high-resolution Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery to proximal sensing networks and edge-based optical sensors. We seek contributions that push the boundaries of satellite, airborne, and ground-based data fusion, optical/non-optical imagery analytics, and AI-driven spatial predictive modelling.

A key focus of this Issue is exploring how remote sensing methodologies can be harmoniously integrated with autonomous field systems and closed-environment control platforms. Highly instrumented greenhouse environments serve as ideal incubation grounds for advanced spectral and spatial monitoring technologies, providing insights that can scale to broad-acre open agriculture.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Remote Sensing is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
