Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The development of ORC technology has accelerated considerably over the last decade. This has led to the emergence of new research centres and innovative concepts for cogeneration systems, with these often being hybrid ones. Intensive research and analyses are being carried out regarding the use of new working fluids, high-efficiency heat exchangers, circulation pumps and expansion machines. Special techniques and algorithms have been developed, which can be used in the analysis and design of complete ORC cogeneration systems. Innovative methods used in the design and calculation of both volumetric and fluid-flow expansion machines are also constantly being developed. These advances can help increase the energy efficiency not only of ORC systems but also of other existing power systems. The development of this technology can also help to increase the energy security and flexibility of the power grid while reducing the consumption of energy resources and limiting the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere.

In this Special Issue of the ‘Design and Experimental Study of Organic Rankine Cycle Systems and Devices’, we are looking for high-quality contributions that focus on the most recent, innovative and cutting-edge methods used for the calculation, analysis, design and research of ORC systems and their components. The topics covered include experimental research and design methods concerning:

  • Expansion machines, whether volumetric or fluid-flow;
  • Pumps (both positive displacement pumps and centrifugal pumps);
  • ORC systems and their components (heat exchangers, power conditioning systems, control systems and automatic control systems, generator cooling systems used in turbogenerators);
  • New measurement methods and devices used in ORC systems;
  • Innovative hybrid ORC systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
