Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit papers to the Special Issue of Processes on “Advances in Monitoring and Control for Safe and Secure Industrial Processes”. Ensuring the safety and security of industrial processes has become increasingly critical as industries adopt more automated, digital, and interconnected systems. The integration of real-time monitoring and control systems with advanced technologies offers new opportunities to enhance the resilience of industrial operations while safeguarding both physical and cyber environments.

The rapid progress in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is transforming industrial process monitoring and control systems. These advancements allow for more intelligent and predictive monitoring techniques, enabling earlier detection of anomalies, optimized control strategies, and stronger defenses against cyber threats. With the ability to harness vast amounts of sensor and operational data, modern industrial systems can now be more robust and adaptable, leading to improved operational safety and cybersecurity across industries.

Given these developments, this Special Issue aims to highlight the latest trends, research, applications, and challenges in monitoring and control for secure and resilient industrial processes. We invite both theoretical and application-oriented contributions, as well as review articles that explore innovations in these areas. All submissions will undergo peer review and will be evaluated for their originality, relevance, and contribution to the field.

Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Real-time monitoring and control systems for industrial safety and security,
  • Application of AI, machine learning, and data analytics in process monitoring,
  • IIoT-based sensor networks for secure remote monitoring,
  • Collaborative and autonomous robots in secure industrial environments,
  • Human-in-the-loop systems for enhanced process automation and safety,
  • Cybersecurity frameworks for industrial control systems,
  • Predictive maintenance and fault detection using advanced monitoring techniques,
  • Digital twin applications for safety and security,
  • Resilience strategies for industrial systems against cyber-physical threats.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
