Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

At present, the global power system is undergoing a profound transformation. Renewable energy sources represented by wind and photovoltaic power generation are experiencing large-scale and rapid development, while flexible AC transmission systems, high-voltage DC transmission systems and electrochemical energy storage systems are being increasingly promoted and applied. A variety of new power electronic devices have also emerged on the load side, making the power electronics feature of the power system increasingly prominent. This is mainly reflected in the increased operational uncertainty, reduced inertia, strong multi-time-scale coupling of the system, as well as the emergence of new stability issues.

Although power electronic technology has enabled flexible control and efficient energy conversion, its large-scale popularization has brought enormous challenges to the analysis, planning, operation and stability control of power systems. Traditional modeling assumptions, planning paradigms and control strategies have become increasingly inadequate to address the dynamic characteristics and uncertainty issues emerging in the new-type power systems. Meanwhile, the rapid growth of measurement, sensing and operational data has provided new opportunities for data-driven analysis and decision-making, serving as an effective supplement to physics mechanism-driven methods.

This Special Issue aims to build a comprehensive academic platform focusing on the relevant theories, methods and applications of the power-electronic-based new-type power systems in the fields of data analysis, planning, operation and stability control. The journal particularly encourages submissions that integrate theoretical and practical values, combine data-driven and model-driven methods or conduct research targeting practical engineering challenges.

Suitable topics for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Measurement and sensing of multi-source data and situational awareness technologies for the new-type power systems.
  • Multi-time-scale modeling and characteristic analysis of power electronic devices.
  • Planning methods for the new-type power systems under high-uncertainty scenarios.
  • Dispatching and operation methods for the new-type power systems with source–grid–load–storage coordination.
  • Interaction mechanism analysis among power electronic devices.
  • Stability analysis and enhancement methods for the new-type power systems.
  • Cyber-physical security and resilience improvement schemes for the new-type power systems.
