Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Intelligent manufacturing is evolving from automated to cognitive, resilient, and human-centric systems, driven by breakthroughs in core enabling technologies. This Special Issue, titled "Advances of Intelligent Manufacturing Process and Equipment", will gather cutting-edge research focused on the development and application of advanced theories, methods, and technologies that form the foundation of intelligent manufacturing.
This Special Issue invites contributions that explore innovative methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and engineering implementations specifically targeted at intelligent manufacturing. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Industrial large language models for generative process planning, natural human–robot interaction, and prescriptive maintenance;
- Embodied AI and robotics with multimodal perception for decision-making in unstructured environments, as well as humanoid robots employed for complex assembly/disassembly tasks;
- Digital twin technologies for high-fidelity modeling, real-time simulation, and closed-loop optimization of manufacturing systems;
- Advanced optimization theories and AI-driven algorithms for dynamic scheduling, quality prediction, and energy-efficient operation.
We particularly encourage submissions addressing challenges such as cognitive process planning, adaptive equipment autonomy, human–robot collaboration, and the seamless integration of digital–physical systems. Contributions related to multimodal data fusion, model interpretability, and the implementation of human-centric AI frameworks in manufacturing are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
