MDPI partnered with the Faculty of Engineering, Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, on 7 September 2026 for an Academic Publishing Workshop dedicated to strengthening participants’ academic writing and publishing skills. Held at the Gearlaxy Space, the event brought together early-career researchers, PhD and master’s students, international students, and Editorial Board Members, and was officially opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kumpon Subsomboon, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Naresuan University, who welcomed the MDPI speaker team and outlined the goals of the afternoon’s program.

The event was officially opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kumpon Subsomboon, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Naresuan University, who warmly welcomed the MDPI speaker team and expressed his appreciation for their contribution in sharing valuable knowledge and insights with faculty members, researchers, and students. He highlighted that the workshop addressed several key needs of researchers, including manuscript preparation, effective responses to peer reviewers, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in academic publishing. The event brought together experts and members of the academic community to exchange knowledge and explore current trends and best practices in scholarly publishing. Participants represented a wide range of academic levels, including professors, researchers, and PhD and master’s students, with strong interest and active engagement maintained throughout the workshop.

The first session was delivered by Dr. Siriporn Tantiwatcharothai, Regional Engagement Editor at the MDPI Bangkok Office. She introduced MDPI and explained its rigorous peer-review process, highlighting how MDPI maintains publication quality, efficient service, and timely editorial processes through continuous investment in both publishing systems and dedicated editorial staff who support authors throughout the submission process. She also presented recent trends in open access publishing and an overview of the faculty’s publication profile. As the workshop was co-organized with four MDPI journals—Applied Mechanics, Applied Sciences, Processes, and Buildings—she introduced their scopes, indexing status in major databases such as Scopus and Web of Science, and highlighted that each journal is ranked Q1 or Q2 in at least one subject category.

The second session, “How to Write Scientific Papers”, was delivered in English by Dr. Juthathip Poofery, Editorial Team Leader and Regional Engagement Editor, to facilitate participation among the international audience. The presentation provided practical guidance on how to develop a clear, well-organized scientific manuscript, covering the purpose and key writing considerations for each major section. Participants were introduced to the overall structure of a scientific paper, including the Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and other essential back matters.  The presentation also covered important elements of research integrity and publication transparency, including authorship, funding, ethics statements, data availability, and conflicts of interest.

The third session, titled “MDPI Editorial Process and How to Respond to Peer Reviewers”, was presented by Ms. Hathaipat Kittirojana, a Regional Engagement Editor. She discussed MDPI editorial process, and interpretation of Academic Editors’ decisions and opinions on manuscript review; additionally, she guided the audience through how to revise the manuscript professionally. This session also included the key tips for revision preparations and how we can organize a response in an effective way. In conclusion, she encouraged the audience to remain positive, open-minded, and professional when replying to reviewers.

The final session was presented by Dr. Krit Inthajak, Regional Engagement Editor of MDPI Bangkok office, “Publication Ethics for Authors and Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Publication”. This session comprises of ethical issues that authors should pay attention to while they write their manuscript, so that they can prevent themselves from facing ethical concerns after publication, such as authorship disputes, data manipulation/fabrication, or major scientific flaws from their research. In addition, AI-generated data usage has become an increasing trend that has the potential to lead to inaccurate results and data falsification. These issues emphasize the need for authors to always validate their AI-generated results by any means necessary.

Each session was followed by a Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with MDPI’s editorial team on the topics covered. The workshop gave attendees a practical, end-to-end view of the publishing journey—from journal selection and manuscript writing through peer-review response and publication ethics—and reinforces the value of MDPI’s continued collaboration with Naresuan University’s Faculty of Engineering in supporting researcher development.
