Dear Colleagues,
The majority of data on gas separation using polymeric membranes relate to the homopolymers. Variation of chemical structure inside the repeating unit is the most popular instrument currently used to obtain polymeric gas separating membranes with better characteristics. This approach meets definite obvious limitations because some characteristics of any polymer contradict each other, such as gas permeability, selectivity of permeability, and so on. In this connection, introducing into polymer membrane an additional new variable using its physico-chemical modification may solve this problem. A list of appropriate modification methods used for this goal includes volume modification (cross-linking, the introduction of filler, or another functional additive), as well as the surface modification of membrane (grafting, fluorination, cold plasma treatment). I think such a topic is specific and wide enough simultaneously. I hope it will be of interest to many specialists working in this area.
