Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Biomedical polymers have long been studied and applied in various fields such as drug delivery, biomaterials and tissue engineering, and nanotechnology for the diagnosis and treatment of numerous diseases. The design, preparation, and characterization of biomedical polymers are of great importance. Equally crucial is understanding their structure–function relationships and identifying potential application areas, as these polymers form the basis of many promising approaches that have already resulted in, or may lead to, commercial products. Moreover, presenting both the currently employed strategies and the most recent technological advances, along with the emerging challenges in the field, to the attention of researchers will have a significant impact. In conclusion, we anticipate that the publication of such a comprehensive Special Issue on the development of biomedical polymers will inspire readers and contribute substantially to both fundamental research and the translation of these materials into clinical practice.

We are pleased to invite you to submit manuscripts to the Special Issue “Advances in Biomedical Polymers: Synthesis, Characterization, and Applications”, to be published in Polymers. Our Special Issue aims to address the recent advances in the field of biomedical polymers, covering topics from their synthesis and characterization to a wide range of health-related applications.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Biomedical polymers for drug and gene delivery;
  • Diagnosis and biomedical polymers (i.e., theranostics);
  • Scaffolds for tissue engineering, fabrication methods;
  • Bioink applications and 3D printing of biomedical polymers;
  • Structure-function relationship;
  • Biodegradable, smart, antimicrobial polymers;
  • Advanced synthesis techniques for biopolymer preparation and modification;
  • Polymer-drug/DNA conjugates;
  • Other applications of biomedical polymers in biomaterials field (soft-hard tissue repair, tissue adhesives, wound closure, etc.);
  • Four-dimensional printing of shape-memory polymers for dynamic, self-assembling tissue constructs and adaptive implants;
  • Microwave-assisted polymerization for eco-friendly, high-purity biopolymers in scalable production;
  • Photopolymerizable bioinks for 3D bioprinting in stereolithography (STL) systems, enabling high-fidelity vascular scaffolds, precision drug-eluting stents, and personalized dosage forms with tunable release profiles.

We welcome contributions in the form of original research articles and review papers.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
