Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The extensive production and use of various organic chemicals (such as pesticides, PPCPs, flame retardants, and plasticizers) have led to their widespread environmental occurrence. As an essential component of the environment, plants can absorb and accumulate pollutants and convert them into various unknown metabolites, which may pose potential risks to the ecological environment and human health. Understanding how these compounds are metabolized or degraded in plants is a key step in developing new green chemicals or building up engineered plants for environmental remediation of these pollutants. This Special Issue calls for contributions to topics related to advances in plant metabolism and degradation of common organic pollutants, which include 1) methodological steps and technologies for accurate identification of metabolites of organic pollutants in plants, 2) mechanistic insights into the plant metabolism of common organic contaminants, 3) the role of endogenous plant enzymes and signal molecules involved in the metabolism of these compounds, and 4) the development of improved plant genotypes that break them down more effectively.
