Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas) is widely recognized as a nutrient-dense, resilient, and high-yield crop that is well suited to marginal environments. However, its sustainable production faces multifaceted challenges. These include persistent threats from diseases and pests—such as Sweetpotato virus disease (SPVD) and weevil infestations—which are being exacerbated by climate change and intensified inter-regional trade. There is also an urgent need to develop stress-tolerant varieties adapted to drought, heat, and saline conditions. Additional concerns include soil health degradation, water management efficiency, and the socioeconomic viability of Sweetpotato farming under evolving environmental conditions. This Special Issue of Plants will highlight multidisciplinary innovations across breeding, pest management, agronomic practices, and supportive policy frameworks to enhance the sustainability of Sweetpotato production worldwide.
