Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the launch of this Special Issue entitled “Advanced Nonlinear Optics in Ultrafast Lasers: From Novel Materials to System Applications”. This Special Issue provides a platform for researchers to share recent advances in ultrafast laser science, nonlinear optical phenomena, and their applications across materials, devices, and integrated systems. The field brings together innovative material development, laser engineering, and nonlinear dynamics, fostering both fundamental discoveries and practical technological solutions.

Ultrafast laser systems exploit nonlinear optical effects such as saturable absorption, Kerr nonlinearity, and harmonic generation, enabling precise control over light-matter interactions on femtosecond and attosecond timescales. Advances in novel materials, including saturable absorbers, optical crystals, and integrated photonic structures, continue to enhance laser performance and expand the scope of potential applications. These developments hold significant promise for areas such as precision material processing, high-speed optical communication, nonlinear spectroscopy, bio-imaging, and quantum photonics.

This Special Issue welcomes original research and review articles that advance the understanding and application of nonlinear optics in ultrafast lasers. Contributions can be theoretical, numerical, or experimental. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, fabrication, and characterization of nonlinear optical materials
  • Saturable absorbers and other mode-locking technologies
  • Ultrafast laser generation and pulse shaping techniques
  • Nonlinear wave propagation and soliton dynamics
  • Applications in laser machining, optical sensing, and imaging
  • Integration of ultrafast lasers into novel systems and devices

We invite researchers from diverse backgrounds to contribute their work, exchange ideas, and explore new directions in this rapidly evolving field!

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
