Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue titled "Laser Spectroscopy: From Fundamentals to Advanced Applications." Laser spectroscopy has evolved dramatically over the past decades, becoming an indispensable tool for precision measurements across physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering disciplines. Recent advances in laser sources, detection methodologies, and signal processing algorithms have expanded the capabilities of spectroscopic techniques to unprecedented levels of sensitivity, resolution, and application versatility. These developments are critical for addressing contemporary challenges in environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, industrial process control, and fundamental scientific research.

This Special Issue aims to present a comprehensive collection of cutting-edge research spanning fundamental principles of laser-matter interactions to innovative applications of spectroscopic techniques. The scope aligns perfectly with Photonics’s focus on optical science and photonics technology, particularly in sensing, spectroscopy, and light-based analytical methods. By bringing together theoretical advances and practical implementations, this Special Issue will provide valuable insights into current trends and future directions in laser spectroscopy. We aim to collect at least 10 high-quality contributions that may be compiled into a printed book upon successful completion.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Fundamentals of light-matter interactions for spectroscopic applications;
  • Absorption spectroscopy techniques across UV-Vis-NIR-MIR spectral regions;
  • Advanced laser sources for high-resolution spectroscopy (frequency combs, QCLs, etc.);
  • Infrared measurement methodologies and instrumentation;
  • Computational approaches for spectral data analysis and reconstruction;
  • Miniaturized spectroscopic systems for field applications;
  • Biomedical applications including non-invasive diagnostics and imaging;
  • Environmental monitoring and remote sensing technologies;
  • Industrial applications in process control and quality assurance.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
