Peptides and Peptidomimetics for Local Drug Delivery

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue on “Peptides and Peptidomimetics in Local Drug Delivery” focuses on recent developments, designs, motifs, characterization, and applications of peptides and mimetics used for local drug delivery. The versatility of the construction of several functional peptides and peptidomimetics enables the development and applications of smart drug delivery systems in nanomedicine. Their properties, including high biocompatibility, increased drug loading capacity, and specific targeting lead to improved therapeutic outcome through increased drug efficacy and reduced side effects. In addition to their drug delivery properties, they can also exhibit bioactive role enhancing the therapeutic effect by triggering intra- or extracellular pathways. Therefore, in this Special Issue, we will address aspects related to newer or older peptides and peptidomimetics, highlighting their use as tools for the construction of versatile local drug delivery systems.

We welcome original research articles, reviews, short communications, and future perspectives in this field, with a focus on all aspects of isolation, synthesis, characterization, and applications of innovative peptides and peptidomimetics for local drug delivery.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
