Pathogens | Special Issue Mentor Program

This project will enable early career researchers to experience editing a Special Issue in our journal, under the mentorship of our experienced Editorial Board Members. The mentor program will provide an excellent opportunity for early-career scientists to gain editorial experience, and to cultivate their ability to edit scientific research.

Special Issue Mentor Program Application Process:

  • The journal will send an announcement to recruit early career researchers (ECRs);
  • The ECR will apply for the Guest Editor position and write a short plan for the Special Issue;
  • The Editorial Office will share the ECR's plan with a suitable Editorial Board Member and discuss whether they are interested in mentoring them;
  • The mentor and ECR will reach an agreement and the ECR will edit the issue under the guidance of their mentor.

Early Career Scientist’s Responsibilities:

  • Providing CV, including a list of publications;
  • Proposing a Special Issue title and a short introduction;
  • Writing a brief promotion plan for the Special Issue;
  • Writing an editorial for the online Special Issue;
  • Reviewing and making decisions for submissions under the mentorship of our EBM.

Mentor’s Responsibilities:

  • Conducting a final check before the Special Issue is published online;
  • Co-editing the Special Issue with younger scholars and performing quality control of the publications in the SI;
  • Providing suggestions to younger scholars if they have doubts or concerns regarding submissions;
  • Organizing video calls with young scholars and the office regularly to discuss the problems and improvement suggestions for the Special Issue.

Certificates and Awards:

When the Special Issue is closed, our office () will provide certificates for all the mentors. Our younger scholars will be prioritized as candidates for our journal award.
