Young Investigator Award

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the winners of the Nutrients 2021 Young Investigator Award are Dr. Fiona Lavelle and Dr. Matthew Snelson.

Dr. Fiona Lavelle is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the Institute for Global Food Security, Queen's University Belfast, Belfast, United Kingdom. Dr. Fiona Lavelle’s research interests are in the area of Behavioural Nutrition, focusing on culinary nutrition. Dr. Fiona Lavelle received her PhD in 2017 and has an outstanding publication record, comprising 23 publications in peer-reviewed international journals. Fiona Lavelle’s Scopus Scientific Citations number 648 and her Hirsch index is 12. She is clearly a rising star in the field with an outstanding record of achievement for a young investigator at this stage of her career, including eight invited presentations at international conferences, and eleven awards and prizes.

Dr. Matthew Snelson is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Diabetes, Central Clinical School, Monash University, Australia. Dr. Matthew Snelson’s research interests, the role of the microbiome in diabetic kidney disease and the study of resistant starch as a therapeutic dietary intervention, represent a critical research area in the management of diabetic complications. Dr. Matthew Snelson received his PhD in 2019 and has an outstanding publication record, comprising 19 publications in peer-reviewed international journals. He is clearly a rising star in the field with an outstanding record of achievement for a young investigator at this stage of his career, including seven invited oral presentations at international conferences, and twenty awards and prizes.

This is an outstanding achievement in today’s competitive environment. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Fiona Lavelle and Dr. Matthew Snelson for their outstanding achievements.

As the awardees, Dr. Fiona Lavelle and Dr. Matthew Snelson will receive an honorarium of CHF 2000, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of 2022 in Nutrients after peer-review, and an engraved plaque.
