Dr. Paola Tiberto Appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of Section “Nanocomposite Materials” in Nanomaterials

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Paola Tiberto has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Section “Nanocomposite Materials” in Nanomaterials (ISSN: 2079-4991).

Dr. Paola Tiberto is the first investigator of the National Metrology Institute of Italy, with a research focus on (i) magnetic properties, (ii) nanomagnetism, and (iii) magnetic nanoparticles and thin films.

The following is a short Q&A with Dr. Paola Tiberto, who shared her vision for the journal, as well as her views on the research area and open access publishing:

1. What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?
Open access is a well-assessed movement in cultural communication that advocates for free and unrestricted access to research outputs. This model has been designed to remove barriers to information by making research findings available to the global community without financial constraints. Open access journals are key to sustaining the development of open access. In this context, the most important aspect of publishing in OA journals in the rapidly evolving field of nanomaterials is that they make it possible to circulate the latest research achievements, stimulating novel research.

2. What was it about our journal that made you want to take the role of Section Editor-in-Chief?
Firstly, the possibility to contribute to advancing research in the rapidly evolving interdisciplinary field of nanocomposite materials is exciting. Serving as Editor-in-Chief provides a unique opportunity to stay at the forefront of groundbreaking research and to foster communication among experts.
As Editor-in-Chief of “Nanocomposite Materials”, I aim to ensure we feature high-quality, impactful studies and contribute to our journal's reputation as a source of cutting-edge advancements in nanocomposite materials.

3. What is your vision for our Section?
Our Section is dedicated to exploring a diverse range of functional materials, including thin films, patterned structures, and nanoparticles. As multifunctional nanomaterials are generally nanocomposites, they involve designing materials that can serve diverse purposes, such as targeted drug delivery, imaging, sensing, and energy conversion.
By covering such a wide range of topics, our Section will be an important source in our research area, particularly for those interested in advances in both fabrication techniques and characterizations (chemical, physical, and biological). The interdisciplinary nature of nanomaterials research will ensure significant advances that will have implications across science, technology, and nanomedicine, attracting contributions from a variety of research areas.

4. What does the future of this field look like?
Nanomaterials are a rapidly developing field with the potential to create drastic improvements across many applications. The advances made to synthesis and characterization techniques have enabled researchers to develop new and improved nanomaterials with a wide range of functional properties. In this way, advances will be at the core of new products and applications across a wide range of fields, including energy, electronics, medicine, and environmental science. Therefore, the future of nanomaterials research has immense power in terms of addressing global challenges and revolutionizing their various applications across different industries. Researchers in our field will play a pivotal role in exploring the full spectrum of nanomaterials in interdisciplinary areas and in addressing our current societal needs.
