Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Natural sources offer an exceptional diversity of bioactive compounds that continue to generate significant interest in natural products chemistry, food science, and biochemical research. This Special Issue aims to advance the current understanding of natural compounds and extracts, with particular emphasis on their antioxidant properties and the broad spectrum of associated biological activities. We particularly welcome studies that elucidate the roles of antioxidant constituents in maintaining redox balance and protecting biomolecules from oxidative processes, as well as research that highlights additional biological effects contributing to the overall functional relevance of these compounds.

In addition, this Special Issue encourages investigations that move beyond conventional methodologies to improve the recovery, enrichment, and stability of bioactive components. Submissions that demonstrate how innovative extraction or processing approaches enhance the quality, concentration, or biological potency of natural antioxidant compounds are especially valued.

We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and short communications that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Exploration, isolation, and structural characterization of natural bioactive compounds from diverse sources (plant, animal, marine, or microbial), providing new insights into their chemical diversity, structure–function relationships, and overall functional significance.
  • In-depth assessment of antioxidant potential and the investigation of associated biological functions and their underlying mechanisms, utilizing biochemical, analytical, or integrative approaches (in vitro, in vivo, and/or in silico).
  • Evaluation of how novel processing or extraction methodologies impact the recovery, stability, bioavailability, or bioactivity of natural antioxidants.

Collectively, contributions will advance the scientific foundation of this dynamic field by providing new insights into the chemical properties and functional significance of natural bioactives.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
