Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The study of igneous rocks is crucial for understanding Earth’s history, providing access to a direct record of the dynamic geological processes that have occurred over billions of years. Importantly, the geochemistry and petrogenesis of these rocks provide information about the conditions of the Earth’s mantle and crust at the time of their formation. Detailed petrographic analyses, advanced mineralogical characterizations, and cutting-edge geochronological techniques can be used to reconstruct the evolution of tectonic plates, the cycling of elements between the mantle and crust, and thermal history. Moreover, studies of igneous rocks have additional importance for understanding the evolution of many ore deposits in the Earth.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to collect detailed case studies of igneous complexes, where the application of different methods—from classical optical mineralogy and major and trace element analyses to advanced isotope geochemistry and petrochronology—illuminates the interplay between magma dynamics and geochemistry, explains the complex set of petrological and geochemical features of the complex, and builds a genetic model accounting for the evolution of a magmatic system in a specific geotectonic setting and geological time.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Minerals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
