Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Organ transplantation represents a major achievement in modern medicine, offering life-saving therapy for patients with end-stage organ failure. Bacterial and viral infections remain a significant challenge in this field. As surgical techniques improve and transplantation is increasingly offered to more complex and fragile patients, the risk and burden of infections grow in parallel.
A particularly pressing concern is the rising prevalence of infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) organisms, which complicate treatment and significantly impact patient outcomes. In parallel, viral infections—including resistant strains of CMV, EBV, and others—are increasingly being reported, posing diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas.
This Special Issue aims to gather original research articles that explore the latest developments in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of microbial and viral infections in transplant recipients. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: antimicrobial resistance; novel immunosuppressive regimens and their infectious consequences; emerging pathogens; strategies for infection control; and advances in virological monitoring and treatment. By addressing these multifaceted challenges, this Special Issue seeks to provide a comprehensive overview and promote future strategies to improve outcomes in organ transplantation.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
