Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a Special Issue of Microorganisms titled "Microbial Visualization and Biosensing".

Imaging tools for microbial visualization and biosensing offer powerful methods for analyzing microbial processes and tracking cells. These tools play a crucial role in exploring microbial physiology, microbial ecology, and the role of microorganisms in medical and pharmaceutical microbiology. They include fluorescence tools, bioluminescence tools, and colorimetric tools, among others. Additionally, microorganisms can be engineered into biosensors to detect biological changes in the environment and for medical applications. Microbial biosensors are potent instruments for detecting metabolites, pollutants, xenobiotics, and contaminants. Their development has the potential to greatly enhance medical diagnosis procedures and environmental health monitoring.

This Special Issue aims to offer a thorough overview of the most recent progress in the design and application of tools for microbial visualization and biosensing, along with microbial biosensors. It places special emphasis on novel analytical imaging tools for microorganisms and microbial biosensors utilized in detecting substances relevant to metabolic engineering, medical diagnosis, drug discovery and development, and environmental health monitoring. The studies encompassed within this Special Issue will contribute significantly to our understanding of microbial physiology, synthetic biology of metabolites, disease mechanisms, development of therapeutic strategies, environmental health monitoring, and advancement of scientific knowledge. These insights are expected to drive forward research in these crucial areas, fostering innovation and progress in both fundamental and applied sciences related to microorganisms.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: the imaging tools for microbial visualization; microbial biosensors utilized in metabolic engineering, medical diagnosis, drug discovery, and development; food safety; environmental health monitoring; etc.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
