Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Zoonotic pathogens pose persistent threats to human health, animal health, food safety, and global public health. Their transmission and pathogenicity are determined by complex interactions among pathogens, susceptible hosts, animal reservoirs, vectors, and environmental factors. A better understanding of these interactions is essential for identifying transmission risks and developing effective prevention and control strategies.
This Special Issue aims to present recent advances in the mechanisms underlying zoonotic pathogen–host interactions and their practical implications for disease control. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and short communications addressing bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic zoonoses. Relevant topics include pathogen invasion, colonization, replication, immune evasion, host immune and inflammatory responses, virulence determinants, antimicrobial resistance, host adaptation, cross-species transmission, and pathogen evolution. Studies involving epidemiological surveillance, multi-omics approaches, animal models, diagnostic methods, vaccines, antimicrobial agents, bacteriophages, and other innovative intervention strategies are also encouraged. Particular attention will be given to interdisciplinary studies integrating human, animal, and environmental health within the One Health framework.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
