Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The emergence of antimicrobial resistance to the existing therapies represents a major challenge towards treatment success against infectious pathogens. Overcoming resistance to the existing therapies requires a combination of drugs with different mechanisms of actions or employing newer modalities such as siRNA/CRISPR Cas9 systems both individually and in combination with a biologic or small molecule encapsulated in a nano carrier for efficient cargo delivery, reducing the therapeutic dose and off-target toxicities. Gene modalities such as mRNA, siRNA, and CRISPR are efficient drug substances that can be directed towards target cellular and tissue compartments for enhanced biodistribution profiles using nanotechnology carriers such as lipid or polymeric nanoparticles, lipopolyplex carriers, and hydrogels.

These goals will only be achieved by joining efforts from multiple disciplines including virology, geneticists, formulation scientists, clinicians, immunologists, medicinal chemists, etc.

The aim of this Special Issue is to provide an adequate multidisciplinary platform for the interchange of valuable information (both basic and applied research) that aids the development of nanoparticulate vaccines against infectious diseases, RNA/CRISPR delivery, and biologics and/ small molecule inhibitors targeted towards reversing antimicrobial resistance to the existing therapies.

As a Guest Editor of the Special Issue, I invite you to submit research articles, review articles, and short communications related to gene and or CRISPR delivery, lipid and polymeric nanoparticulate vaccines and systems loading biologics/small molecule inhibitors targeted towards reversing microbial resistance to the existing therapies.
