Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue highlights recent advancements and novel strategies addressing key challenges in kidney transplantation, offering a comprehensive review of cutting-edge research, clinical, and surgical innovations with the potential to transform the field.

Our focus spans several key areas, including innovative surgical techniques used to optimize organ utilization, as well as recent advances in organ preservation and perfusion. We also explore the role of minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures, which improve recovery and reduce complications. Additionally, we assess strategies such as donor exchange programs to expand the donor pool and increase access to transplantation, alongside the integration of donation after circulatory death (DCD) protocols and the associated challenges.

This Special Issue also delves into the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in post-transplant care. We examine breakthroughs in genomics and biomarkers for early rejection detection, personalized treatment strategies, and the monitoring of graft function and immunocompetence. The potential of xenotransplantation as a solution to organ scarcity will also be explored, along with advancements in immunosuppressive therapies aimed at improving patient outcomes, reducing post-transplant infections and rejection, and enhancing long-term management.

To ensure that we receive papers of the highest quality, we encourage authors to submit in-depth research articles, comprehensive reviews, and meta-analyses rather than mini-reviews or case reports. This Special Issue will bring together leading experts and researchers, fostering interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations to tackle pressing issues in kidney transplantation. We hope that this Special Issue will provide a valuable resource for clinicians and researchers focused on improving patient outcomes and advancing the field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
