Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, titled “Latest Advances and Prospects About the Molecular Metabolism in Muscles”, in Medicina. Skeletal muscle is a central tissue for human movement, metabolic regulation, and overall health. Recent advances in molecular metabolism have uncovered key regulatory networks controlling muscle function, plasticity, and adaptation under various physiological and pathological conditions. Understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive muscle metabolism is critical for addressing major health challenges, including sarcopenia, cachexia, obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic diseases.
This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest discoveries and future directions in skeletal muscle metabolism research. We welcome original research articles and reviews that advance our understanding of how molecular, cellular, and metabolic pathways shape muscle performance, regeneration, and adaptation across the lifespan. This Special Issue aligns with Medicina’s mission to bridge basic science with translational and clinical applications that improve human health.
In this Special Issue, we welcome submissions including, but not limited to, the following:
- Molecular signaling pathways regulating muscle metabolism.
- Mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, and muscle bioenergetics.
- Skeletal muscle adaptation to exercise and nutritional interventions.
- Sarcopenia, muscle wasting, and metabolic diseases.
- Non-coding RNAs and epigenetic regulation in muscle biology.
- Muscle regeneration, stem cells, and tissue engineering approaches.
- Translational and therapeutic strategies targeting muscle metabolism.
We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
