Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Psychosis encompasses a diverse spectrum of symptoms—such as hallucinations, delusions, and thought disorganization—that can manifest across a range of psychiatric and neurological disorders. Despite significant advances in diagnosis and treatment, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying psychosis remain only partially understood, and existing interventions often fail to fully address the complexity and heterogeneity of these syndromes. Recent years have seen a surge in translational and interdisciplinary research, integrating neurobiology, genetics, cognitive neuroscience, pharmacology, and psychosocial models to offer a more nuanced understanding of psychosis.

This Special Issue of Medicina aims to gather innovative contributions that explore the mechanisms, risk factors, and interventions associated with psychotic disorders. We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and theoretical perspectives that address neurodevelopmental pathways, neurochemical dysregulation (e.g., dopaminergic, glutamatergic, or immune-mediated), trauma-related vulnerabilities, circadian and sleep-related alterations, and social determinants of psychosis. We particularly welcome submissions that focus on early identification, preventive strategies, novel pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments (e.g., digital tools, psychotherapy, lifestyle interventions), and the role of precision psychiatry in personalizing care.

By compiling multidisciplinary insights, this Special Issue aims to foster a comprehensive framework that enhances our understanding, prediction, and treatment of psychosis across the lifespan.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs).
