Dear Colleagues,
Marine ecosystems harbor abundant and unique biological resources, which produce a large number of structurally diverse and biologically active secondary metabolites. These marine bioactive substances have outstanding advantages such as novel chemical structures, unique pharmacological activities and low toxic side effects, and have become crucial treasure resources for the development of new biomedical drugs, functional health products and clinical auxiliary therapies. In recent years, with the rapid development of synthetic biology, microbial engineering and marine biotechnology, in-depth exploration of the biosynthesis mechanism of marine bioactive substances, optimization of synthesis pathways, and efficient acquisition of high-value active metabolites have become hot research directions in marine biology and translational medicine.
This Special Issue focuses on the latest research progress in the biosynthesis of marine bioactive substances and their innovative medical applications. We warmly welcome both high-quality original research papers and comprehensive review articles. Original research submissions are encouraged to report novel findings regarding synthetic regulatory mechanisms, efficient biosynthesis strategies, heterologous expression systems, pharmacological functions, and preclinical therapeutic potential of marine bioactive compounds. Review papers are highly appreciated to provide systematic summaries, in-depth discussions, current challenges, and future prospects of this rapidly developing field, covering anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and antimicrobial applications. We also welcome studies on the optimization of biosynthetic processes, yield improvement strategies, and biomanufacturing technologies of marine active metabolites, so as to promote the basic research transformation and industrial application of marine biomedical resources.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: biosynthesis and metabolic regulation of marine bioactive metabolites; synthetic biology modification and efficient synthesis of marine active substances; isolation, identification and functional verification of novel marine bioactive compounds; pharmacological mechanism research on marine active substances; preclinical research and translational medical application of marine bioactive substances; and biomanufacturing and process optimization of marine biomedical active products.
