Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Driven by global trends of intelligent, green, and high-precision development in manufacturing, precision machining, and forming, technologies have become core enablers in strategic industries such as the aerospace, high-end equipment, and new energy industries. To address challenges in complex component processing, difficult-to-cut material forming, and high-efficiency manufacturing demands, this Special Issue focuses on advanced design methodologies, intelligent control technologies, and interdisciplinary process innovations, aiming to drive groundbreaking advancements in precision manufacturing theory and practice.

Key topics include the following:

  • Precision Equipment Design and Control: Structural optimization of precision machine tools, servo control system development, fluid-power system performance
  • Intelligent and Green Manufacturing Technologies: Intelligent status monitoring with IoT and digital twin, energy consumption monitoring, energy-saving strategies, and multi-physics collaborative simulation.
  • Ultra-Precision Machining Processes: Ultrasonic vibration-assisted cutting, multi-energy-field composite machining, micro-/nano-scale surface integrity control, tool wear, and efficient machining of difficult-to-cut metals.
  • Advanced Forming and Material Processing: Stamping and forming mechanisms, fine blanking processes, wear mechanisms, and lifespan prediction of ultra-hard tools.
  • Quality and Reliability: Intelligent compensation of machining errors, real-time detection of micro-defects, surface/subsurface optimization.

This Special Issue encourages original research addressing key challenges in the precision industry, covering process mechanisms, equipment development, and industrial application cases, with a view towards higher-accuracy precision manufacturing, lower energy consumption, and enhanced intelligence.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
