Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Low viscosity engine oils penetration into the market seems to be an unstoppable effect of increasing fuel economy mandates for both passenger cars and heavy-duty engines. Great efforts have been directed toward the development of lubricants in order to reach fuel economy levels and, furthermore, to avoid penalization in other related aspects such as oil drain period, wear protection, sludge protection, engine cleanliness, and so on. What can be expected in the next years for the new low viscosity engine formulations?

From the point of view of end-users, concerns about the mid and long-term protective capability of such “thinner” oil, values of fuel economy in real service or if fuel economy savings can be maintained in the long-term are concerns still being raised by fleet managers.

This Special Issue will focus on current advances and futures trends in low viscosity engine oils. Research articles dedicated to performance assessment from different points of view, including engine test bed, road test or simulation test, oil development in terms of base rheology improvements or additive packages, friction coefficient improvement on boundary, and mixed lubrication regimes, as well as the resulting engine wear behavior or oil degradation will be of great interest. Contributions from both academic and industrial research are warmly welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Lubricants is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
