Prospects for Marine Renewable Energy

This special issue belongs to the section “Marine Energy“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Marine renewable energy has gained significant attention in recent years, emerging as a key focus area due to its reproducibility and environmental benefits. This promising energy sector encompasses technologies including the following types of energy: wave, tidal, salinity gradient, ocean thermal, and offshore wind. When harnessed effectively, marine renewable energy can contribute significantly to the global renewable energy supply. However, the feasibility of utility-scale deployments is influenced not only by the economics of power generation, but also by the potential hydro-environmental impacts of these installations. Moreover, operating and maintaining large-scale marine energy converters in harsh marine environments remains a substantial challenge.

This Special Issue aims to collect high-quality research and insights on marine renewable energy applications, fostering a platform where readers can access valuable information on marine renewable energy engineering. Topics of interest include critical reviews of methodologies, innovative solutions, and practical applications. The goal is to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration to accelerate the adoption of marine renewable energy technologies.

Researchers are invited to submit manuscripts covering innovative technical developments, reviews, case studies, analytical studies, and assessments relevant to marine renewable energy and its market. This includes, but is not limited to, areas such as tidal stream turbines, wave energy systems, offshore wind turbine technologies, sensing and monitoring systems, sub-sea engineering, resource modeling, and the prognostics and health management of marine renewable energy conversion systems. This Special Issue aims to bridge gaps in the knowledge and support the advancement of modeling, engineering, and implementation strategies critical to the sector's success.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
