Recent Advances in Marine Petroleum and Reservoir Engineering

Dear Colleagues,

At present, petroleum and natural gas remain very important fossil energy sources for the promotion of economic development. However, with the increasing extent of global petroleum exploration, the difficulty of petroleum exploration and development is constantly increasing. The sedimentary basins of the ocean contain abundant oil and gas resources, which are critical potential resources for the global increase in petroleum production. In particular, deep-water and ultra-deep-water areas with a lower degree of exploration will become important fields for future oil and gas exploration.

In recent years, significant progress has been made in offshore petroleum exploration and development, while new theoretical and technical challenges have emerged. In this context, this Special Issue, ‘Recent Advances in Marine Petroleum and Reservoir Engineering’, has been organized. This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to marine petroleum geology and offshore petroleum reservoir engineering, providing new theoretical and practical bases for the efficient exploration and development of marine petroleum resources.

We warmly welcome the submission of research and review papers related to marine petroleum and reservoir engineering, including, but not limited to, the following topics:

(1) The structural evolution and formation mechanism of offshore petroleum basins.

(2) The paleoenvironmental evolution and organic matter enrichment mechanism of offshore petroleum basins.

(3) The development characteristics and resource potential of source rocks in offshore petroleum basins.

(4) The influence of deep crust–mantle processes on the formation of offshore petroleum reservoirs.

(5) Conventional and unconventional oil and gas resources in offshore petroleum basins.

(6) The enrichment mechanisms and resource potential of natural resources associated with petroleum.

(7) Evaluation and prediction of petroleum resource potential in marine deep water and ultra-deep-water areas.

(8) The development of typical offshore oil and gas reservoirs.

(9) Techniques and processes for enhancing the recovery rate of petroleum in offshore oil and gas fields.

(10) Offshore carbon sequestration projects.

(11) Numerical simulations of oil and gas reservoir development.
