Dear Colleagues,
Growth and maturation drive continuous refinement of motor patterns, from a toddler’s first steps to the highly coordinated skills of a young athlete. Lightweight wearable sensors, portable force plates, and high-speed motion capture now allow precise, ecologically valid quantification of muscle strength, proprioception, agility, and balance, offering objective insight into motor skill acquisition throughout childhood and adolescence. These technologies are reshaping pediatric rehabilitation, where such measures guide individualized therapy for children with neuromuscular or orthopedic conditions. In parallel, youth sports programs increasingly apply biomechanical profiling for talent identification, training load management, and injury prevention.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which will consolidate the latest evidence on biomechanical assessment in pediatric, youth, and growth-related populations.
This Special Issue aims to bring together original research and authoritative reviews that apply biomechanical principles and instrumentation to the unique challenges of studying children and adolescents. Spanning fundamental motor development, specialized athletic performance, typical growth, and clinical rehabilitation, the issue will highlight how quantitative movement analysis captures the interplay between biological maturation and functional capacity.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but not limited to) the following:
- Wearable inertial, EMG, and multimodal sensors for tracking gait, posture, and fundamental movement skills in children and adolescents.
- Force plate, pressure mat, and instrumented insole analyses of postural control, strength development, and landing mechanics during growth.
- Biomechanical profiling of youth athletes for talent identification, performance benchmarking, and injury risk screening.
- Quantitative movement evaluation in pediatric rehabilitation, including children with cerebral palsy, scoliosis, limb deficiencies, or sports-related injuries.
- Longitudinal studies monitoring biomechanical changes across peak height velocity, pubertal stages, or other maturational landmarks.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
