We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, entitled ‘Advances in Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injury, Treatment, and Functional Recovery’.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury remains one of the most common and challenging conditions in sports medicine and orthopedic practice. Despite substantial advances in surgical reconstruction techniques, rehabilitation protocols, imaging technologies, biomechanical assessment, and injury prevention strategies, significant challenges remain regarding individualized treatment, return-to-sport decision-making, reinjury prevention, and long-term joint preservation. Continued research is essential to improve patient outcomes and optimize evidence-based clinical practice.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current advances in ACL research from both basic science and clinical perspectives. The scope encompasses functional morphology, biomechanics, injury mechanisms, surgical reconstruction techniques, graft selection, meniscal and cartilage preservation, rehabilitation strategies, return-to-sport assessment, motion analysis, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence applications, computational modeling, and long-term outcomes following ACL injury and reconstruction. These topics are closely aligned with the journal's focus on functional morphology, kinesiology, movement sciences, and musculoskeletal health.
In this Special Issue, original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, narrative reviews, technical notes, and translational studies are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- ACL anatomy and functional morphology;
- Biomechanics of ACL injury and reconstruction;
- Risk factors and injury prevention programs;
- Surgical techniques and graft selection;
- Meniscal and cartilage preservation;
- Motion analysis and wearable technologies;
- Artificial intelligence in sports medicine;
- Rehabilitation and return-to-sport assessment;
- Functional outcomes after ACL reconstruction;
- Computational and finite element modeling.
