Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The past few decades have seen remarkable advancements in nanotechnology. At the nanoscale, materials possess uniquely tunable physicochemical properties, facilitating a multitude of unconventional applications that are impossible to achieve with their bulk counterparts. From targeted drug delivery to novel diagnostic platforms, these functional nanomaterials are revolutionizing biomedical research. This Special Issue, “Functional Nanomaterial for Biomedical Applications,” is positioned at this dynamic crossroads, curating the latest pioneering studies and insightful reviews that bridge nanotechnology, materials science, and biomedical engineering.
In this Special Issue, we aim to explore the cutting-edge research and advancements in the field of ceramic and its composite materials for bone regeneration. The scope of this Special Issue is broad and interdisciplinary, reflecting the dynamic nature of the field. We invite contributions that cover, but are not limited to, the following themes: Composites based on Nanomaterials; Rational Design, Synthesis, and Functionalization of Advanced Nanomaterials; Novel Synthesis and Surface Engineering; Targeted Drug Delivery and Controlled Release; Diagnostic and Theranostic Platforms including photoacoustic, photothermal or photodynamic, biosensing, bioseparation, bioimaging, as well as hyperthermal therapy; Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering.
This Special Issue will serve as a valuable resource for researchers and clinicians working in the field of biomaterials, biomedicine and tissue engineering.
We cordially invite researchers and scientists to contribute their original research or reviews that align with this vision.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Functional Biomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
