Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Carbon in its diverse forms, such as carbon fibers, carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphene oxide, biochar, carbon black, and waste-derived carbons, offers unique opportunities to enhance mechanical performance, durability, and multifunctional properties. This Special Issue invites original research and reviews on the development and application of carbon-based composites in construction materials, including cementitious composites, concrete, lime mortars, and asphalt.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:

(1) Reinforcement of cementitious composites and lime mortars with carbon-based additives for improved strength, crack resistance, and service life.

(2) Functionalization of construction materials with carbon nanomaterials for self-sensing, conductivity, or thermal regulation.

(3) Modification of asphalt and bitumen using graphene, carbon fibers, or biochar for enhanced rheological, mechanical, and sustainability performance.

(4) Low-carbon and circular-economy strategies through the valorization of waste-derived carbons in construction applications.

(5) Life cycle assessment and durability studies of carbon-based composites for sustainable infrastructure.

This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for interdisciplinary research that bridges advances in nanotechnology, materials science, and construction engineering toward the development of next-generation carbon-based composites.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Journal of Composites Science is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
