Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The increasing demand for high-efficiency, lightweight, and resilient aerospace systems has driven significant advancements in composite structural technologies. Owing to their superior mechanical performance, tailorable properties, and multifunctional capabilities, advanced composite materials have become indispensable in next-generation aerospace structures. In particular, the integration of innovative design methodologies with rigorous theoretical and computational frameworks has opened new frontiers in understanding the complex behavior of such systems under coupled mechanical, thermal, and aerodynamic environments.

This Special Issue aims to present state-of-the-art research on the modeling, analysis, and design of advanced composite structures for aerospace applications, with a particular emphasis on mathematically rigorous formulations, high-fidelity simulations, and experimentally validated approaches. Contributions that bridge the gap between theoretical developments and engineering applications are especially encouraged.

The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Composite airfoil structures and aerodynamic components;
  • Composite wings and advanced aerospace structural systems;
  • Smart, adaptive, and multifunctional composite structures;
  • Linear and nonlinear vibration, stability, and dynamic behavior;
  • Aeroelasticity and fluid–structure interaction phenomena;
  • Lightweight, high-performance, and energy-efficient aerospace structures;
  • Functionally graded, hybrid, and nano-reinforced composites;
  • Advanced analytical, numerical, and experimental methods.

Particular attention will be given to contributions that introduce novel theoretical models, enhance predictive capabilities, or provide deeper physical insight into the behavior of composite aerospace structures. Studies addressing multi-scale modeling, coupled-field problems, and emerging smart material systems are highly welcomed.

This Special Issue intends to bring together leading researchers and practitioners to disseminate innovative ideas and cutting-edge developments, thereby contributing to the advancement of aerospace composite technologies and their practical implementation.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Composites Science is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
